The legacy of Mysore Silk began in the 1790s under Tipu Sultan, who first imported silkworms from China. However, it reached its modern zenith in 1912 when Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV established the first silk weaving factory in Mysore. He imported state-of-the-art power looms from Switzerland to create a fabric that was machine-perfect yet retained the soul of Indian craftsmanship.
